Deacon Blended Scotch Whiskey 750ml

The Deacon comes from Sovereign Brands, a company known for building striking, design-forward packaging around its spirits releases. The bottle itself takes the shape of a hammered copper still, topped with a label depicting a Medico della Peste, the plague doctor mask historically worn by medieval physicians, giving the brand a distinctly gothic, steampunk-inspired identity. In Scots vernacular, a "deacon" traditionally referred to a skilled tradesman or master craftsman, a nod the brand uses to frame its blending approach. Rather than distilling in-house, Sovereign Brands sources whiskies from established Scottish distilleries and blends them under the Deacon name.

The whisky combines malt whiskies from Islay and Speyside with select grain whisky, pairing Speyside's classic malty, floral character against the peatier, brinier profile associated with Islay. Both pot and column stills are used across the various component whiskies, following the standard approach for blended Scotch, before the finished blend is bottled at 40% alcohol by volume.

The nose opens with peat and sea spray, along with leather and a touch of dill-like salinity. On the palate, that smokiness turns sweeter, layered with charred citrus, honeyed malt, and a hint of vanilla, backed by dried fruit and toasted oak. The finish is medium in length and leans sweet, closing on lingering smoke and orange. Its playful, smoky-sweet balance makes it a versatile base for whisky cocktails like a Rob Roy or Blood and Sand.
