Dewar's traces its roots to 1846, when John Dewar opened a wine and spirits shop in Perth, Scotland, a business his sons John and Tommy later grew into a major international blending house. The family built Aberfeldy distillery in 1898 to guarantee a steady supply of malt whisky, and that Highland single malt still forms the backbone of the 12 Year blend today. Dewar's became known as a pioneer of the double aging method, a technique the company still applies across its range. The brand is now part of Bacardi Limited and continues to promote itself as the world's most awarded blended Scotch.

Dewar's 12 Year brings together up to forty single malt and grain whiskies, each matured for a minimum of twelve years before blending. What sets the process apart is a second maturation stage: after the components are combined, the finished blend is returned to hand-selected oak casks, often first-fill bourbon barrels, for a further period of marrying, roughly six months, that Dewar's credits with deepening the whisky's flavor and rounding out its texture. The finished product is bottled at 40% alcohol by volume.

The nose offers peach, red apple, and butterscotch, with floral top notes and a bright touch of citrus zest. On the palate, that fruit continues alongside honey and creamy malt, developing into white pepper and clove as it opens up. The finish is notably long, closing on vanilla, soft oak, and a last trace of butterscotch. It's smooth enough to enjoy neat, though it also holds its own with a single large ice cube.
