Dewar's traces its origins to 1846, when John Dewar opened a wine and spirits shop in Perth and began blending his own whisky under his own name. His sons later expanded the company internationally and built Aberfeldy distillery in 1898 to secure the Highland malt that remains the heart of Dewar's blends today. The Champion's Edition series began in 2021 as part of Dewar's ongoing partnership with the U.S. Open Championship, and each annual release under current Master Blender Stephanie Macleod has been finished in a different type of cask tied to that year's host course, from American bourbon and Napa Valley red wine barrels to French Calvados. Dewar's is now part of Bacardi Limited.

Each Champion's Edition starts with up to forty single malt and grain whiskies matured for a minimum of nineteen years, built around Dewar's signature two-stage aging process, in which the finished blend is returned to oak casks for further marrying after the initial maturation. The distinguishing step comes in the final cask selection, chosen to complement the terroir or theme of that year's tournament site. The whisky is bottled at 43% alcohol by volume.

Tasting notes shift somewhat by vintage depending on the finishing cask, but recent editions have shown fragrant orchard apple and toasted cereal on the nose, with a whisper of honeysuckle. On the palate, poached apple and silky vanilla unfold into gentle spice, while other years have leaned into dark red fruit and nutmeg from red wine cask finishing. The finish across editions runs smooth and lingering. It's built for slow, contemplative sipping neat.
