Dewar's Double Double 21 yr Mizunara Oak Cask Scotch Whiskey 750ml

Dewar's began in 1846 when John Dewar opened a small wine and spirits shop in Perth, Scotland, a modest start that grew into one of the largest Scotch whisky brands in the world, now under the ownership of Bacardi. Master Blender Stephanie Macleod has continued to push the brand's signature marrying process into new territory, and this release marks Dewar's first specially finished expression within its Double Double line, borrowing a technique she first explored for the brand's Japanese Smooth range.

The whisky follows Dewar's four-stage aging method: malt and grain components are matured separately for 21 years, blended, rested again, and finally finished in Japanese mizunara oak casks. Mizunara is notoriously difficult to work with, prone to leaking due to its porous, high-moisture wood, and trees must reach roughly two centuries of age before they can be milled into staves, which makes casks made from it genuinely scarce. The result is bottled at 46% ABV.

The nose opens with poached pear and tropical fruit, turning toward milk chocolate, vanilla cream, and a whisper of coconut. On the palate, citrus blossom and honeyed fruit meet the wood's distinctive character, often described as sandalwood or a faint mossy earthiness, before a finish that lingers with vanilla and a light touch of spice.
