Domaine d'Aurensan 20 yr Armagnac 700ml
Domaine d'Aurensan is the Rozès family's home estate, farming just over seven hectares of clay-limestone soil in the Ténarèze region of Armagnac, with a winemaking heritage dating back to 1870 and four generations of continuous family stewardship. The estate handles every step of production itself, from tending its own vines to distilling in traditional alembic stills and aging the spirit in barrels built from wood grown on the property.
This 20 Year expression is a blend of four single casks, distilled in different years and married together to create what the label calls a "Triple Zero" Armagnac: no water reduction, no added sugar, and no coloring agents at any stage. The twenty-year designation reflects only the youngest component in the blend, since the barrels were never topped up during aging, meaning much of the final spirit is considerably older than the stated age, with some casks having matured for four decades or more. Vinification is entirely natural, relying on native yeast with no oenological additives.
The color runs dark bronze, and the nose is woody and spiced, layered with fig, date, and dark cherry alongside soft floral notes. On the palate, prune and cocoa mingle with light licorice root and dried herbs, while a touch of gentian lends a subtle bitterness to the long, chocolate-tinged finish. This is a powerful, contemplative Armagnac best sipped slowly, neat, after a meal.
