El Dorado 15 yr Rum 750ml
El Dorado is produced by Demerara Distillers Limited, the last operating rum distillery in Guyana, located at Plantation Diamond on the East Bank of the Demerara River. The company traces its lineage to the 1600s, when Dutch land reclamation efforts opened up the Demerara region to sugar cane cultivation. By the late 1700s the area held hundreds of independent distilleries, each with its own still and marque, but consolidation over the following two centuries left a single producer holding the region's surviving stills. Demerara Distillers now carries that heritage forward under the El Dorado name, launched in its current form in 1992.
The 15 Year Old is a blend of Demerara rums aged a minimum of fifteen years, with some components considerably older, drawn from a combination of historic wooden stills, including the Port Mourant double wooden pot still and Versailles single wooden pot still, alongside Enmore and Diamond Coffey column stills. Fermentation relies on the distillery's own proprietary yeast strain, and the resulting spirits are matured separately in used oak casks before being blended and bottled at 40% ABV.
The rum offers aromas of dried fruit, orange peel, and licorice, developing into a palate of toffee, dark chocolate, and warm baking spice, with a long, velvety finish carrying notes of oak and espresso.
