Elephant London Dry Gin 750ml
Elephant Gin was founded in 2013 by Robin and Tessa Gerlach, a German couple whose travels across South Africa, Kenya, and Tanzania left them captivated by the continent's landscapes and wildlife. Back home, they set out to bottle that experience, building a distillery in Wittenburg, a small village between Berlin and Hamburg, where the gin is still handcrafted today. The brand's connection to Africa goes beyond flavor: 15 percent of bottle profits are donated to elephant conservation charities including Big Life Foundation and Space for Elephants, and every batch label carries the name of a real elephant those organizations help protect.
The gin is distilled in small batches of six hundred to seven hundred bottles using an Arnold Holstein copper still, with all fourteen botanicals macerated together for a full day before distillation. Alongside juniper, orange peel, cassia bark, and other familiar London Dry botanicals, the recipe draws on rare African ingredients rarely seen in gin, including baobab, buchu, devil's claw, and lion's tail, a South African shrub named for its bright orange blooms. Fresh apples, hand cut from orchards surrounding the distillery, round out the blend alongside German spring water.
The nose leads with juniper and mountain pine, giving way to floral and herbal undertones from the African botanicals. On the palate the gin is smooth and layered, balancing gentle spice against soft fruit from the apple and a light, honeyed sweetness. It makes an excellent Gin and Tonic and works beautifully in a French 75.
