Far North Spirits Solveig Gin 1L

Far North Spirits was founded by Michael Swanson and Cheri Reese, who returned to Swanson family land in Hallock, Minnesota to build one of the northernmost distilleries in the contiguous United States. The farm has been worked by the Swanson family since 1917, and the distillery, completed in 2013 on a former wheat field, draws almost all of its grain from land within a mile of the stills, making it one of the few true single-estate operations in American craft spirits.

Solveig, a Scandinavian name combining the words for sun and strength, is built on a base of estate-grown AC Hazlet winter rye. Eight botanicals, including red grapefruit, organic thyme, and lavender, are distilled individually in copper pot stills rather than in one combined run, then blended afterward so each element retains its distinct character before the gin is bottled at 43.5% ABV.

On the nose, Solveig offers citrus, pine, and a touch of lavender. The palate opens creamy and light, developing notes of thyme and coriander with air, before finishing rich and cool with lingering hints of black olive and fresh grain. The overall effect is soft and ethereal rather than heavily juniper-forward, giving the gin a distinctive, garden-fresh character that sets it apart from more traditional London Dry styles.
