Francis Darroze built his reputation as the son of celebrated chef Jean Darroze, channeling a family passion for tradition and authenticity into the vintage Armagnac trade he founded in 1974. Rather than operating his own distillery, Darroze sources single-estate eaux-de-vie from small growers across Bas-Armagnac, including Domaine de Bellair, and ages each vintage separately to preserve the distinct character of its terroir and its year.

This 1985 vintage is a blend of sixty percent Baco and forty percent Ugni Blanc grapes, distilled and then aged for thirty-eight years in oak before bottling in 2023. In keeping with Darroze's house philosophy, the spirit's final proof was reached entirely through natural evaporation during its long time in barrel, known as the angel's share, rather than through dilution with water, and no blending or coloring agents were used at any stage.

The color is a deep brown with golden tints, and the nose combines spice notes of clove and pepper with woody tobacco and toast, layered over prune and quince. On the palate, the attack is supple and the tannins round, opening into a well-balanced finish of candied orange peel and ripe apricot. This is a contemplative sipping Armagnac, best enjoyed slowly, neat, in a tulip glass after dinner.
