G. E. Massenez Williams (Pear in bottle) Eau de vie 750ml

G.E. Massenez is a historic French distillery based in Alsace, passed down through generations and known for producing eaux de vie using traditional rather than industrial methods. The house selects only the finest ripe fruit, and this particular bottling has become one of the brand's most recognizable releases, prized as much for its striking presentation as for the spirit inside. In 2010, Massenez joined forces with Grandes Distilleries Peureux under new leadership, a union that has helped the brand continue expanding while preserving its traditional production philosophy.

This eau de vie showcases a genuine feat of orchard craftsmanship: each empty bottle is fastened to a budding Williams pear tree in springtime, allowing a young shoot to grow directly inside the glass over the course of the season. Once the pear has fully ripened, the fruit and bottle are carefully detached together and rinsed before the bottle is filled with clear pear eau de vie distilled from the same variety. The finished spirit is bottled at 40% ABV, a true fruit brandy rather than a sweetened liqueur.

The nose is clean and unmistakably Williams pear, intensely fruity with a long, inviting bouquet that reflects careful fruit selection and gentle distillation. On the palate, fresh pear gives way to ripe fruit and marmalade, layered with floral freshness and a spiced, faintly licorice tinged finish. It is best served lightly chilled in a small tulip glass as an after dinner pour, and pairs beautifully with fruit tarts, soft ripened cheese, or dark chocolate.
