G4 Reposado Tequila 750ml
G4 represents the fourth generation of the Camarena family's tequila making legacy, which traces back to 1937 and also includes the well known Tapatío and El Tesoro brands. Today the line is led by Master Distiller Felipe Camarena at El Pandillo, a solar powered distillery in Jesús María, Jalisco, that Camarena built himself and considers among the most sustainable in the industry.
Highland Blue Weber agave from the family's own ranches is hand trimmed and slow roasted in stone ovens for twenty two hours, then crushed using a homemade steamroller device Camarena nicknamed the Felipestein rather than a mechanical shredder. The juice ferments naturally with a proprietary family yeast before double distillation in copper pot stills, using a fifty-fifty blend of harvested rainwater and natural spring water. This reposado then rests for a minimum of six months in used George Dickel Tennessee whiskey barrels, a choice that sets it apart from reposados aged in standard bourbon casks.
The nose carries cooked agave, oak, black pepper, and a touch of heat, with hints of peach and licorice underneath. On the palate, rich agave meets vanilla, caramel, and semi-sweet chocolate, rounded out by citrus and a milder pepper spice than the aroma suggests. The finish is light but long, closing with a warm, agave forward character.
