Gin Mare Capri Gin 700ml
Gin Mare Capri comes from the same Catalan distillery behind the original Gin Mare, which launched in 2010 as the first gin built specifically around Mediterranean botanicals. That original recipe was developed by the Giró Ribot family, whose distillers spent years testing dozens of botanicals in a mini pot still before settling on the four ingredients that became the brand's signature. Production takes place at Destilerías Miquel Guansé, housed in a converted thirteenth century chapel on the Catalan coast south of Barcelona. Capri, released to mark Gin Mare's tenth anniversary, was created as a tribute to the Italian island, drawing on its citrus and the broader dolce vita spirit associated with the region.
The gin builds on Gin Mare's core quartet of Arbequina olive from Spain, Greek rosemary, Turkish thyme, and Italian basil, adding hand-peeled lemons from Capri and bergamot from Calabria. Following the distillery's signature Mediterranean method, each botanical macerates and distills separately before being blended together, and the Capri lemons in particular are aged in small aluminum tanks for twelve months before joining the rest of the gin. The base spirit is French barley, and the whole process still relies on small batch copper stills at the original chapel site.
The nose opens with zesty lemon and bergamot layered over herbal whispers of thyme and candied citrus. On the palate, bright citrus gives way to rosemary and basil before a soft, savory olive character carries through the finish. It shines in a Gin and Tonic built with fresh citrus, and its briny depth also makes it a natural partner for grilled white fish.
