GlenDronach was founded in 1826 by James Allardice in the Valley of Forgue, near Huntly in the Scottish Highlands, and the distillery operated its own floor maltings until 1996. It was historically among the last in Scotland to heat its stills using direct coal fire, a practice it maintained until 2005, and it has long built its reputation on rich, sherry-forward single malts rather than the peated or coastal styles more common elsewhere in Scotland.

This expression matures for a minimum of twelve years in a combination of Spanish Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, giving the whisky its deep amber-red color and dense fruit character without relying on the bourbon-cask aging typical of many Highland malts. It is bottled at 43% ABV, non-chill filtered and without added coloring.

The nose brings raisins, dried plum, and orange peel alongside creamy vanilla and warm baking spice. On the palate, the whisky is full bodied and silky, layering toffee, ripe berries, and Christmas cake flavors with ginger and cinnamon spice. The finish is medium in length, drying and slightly nutty, closing on cocoa and toasted oak.

"This superb richly sherried single malt is matured for at least 12 years in a combination of the finest Spanish Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks. Non-chill filtered, of natural colour and bottled at 43%, the GlenDronach 12 year old Original is a sweet, creamy dram.EXPRESSIONThe GlenDronach Original 12 Years OldAPPEARANCEDeep amber-red gold.NOSESweet, creamy vanilla, with hints of ginger.
