Godet Folle Blanche Single Grape Rare Cognac 750ml
The Godet family has been distilling in La Rochelle since 1588, and the house now stands in its fifteenth generation, still favoring rare, nearly forgotten grape varieties over the Ugni Blanc that dominates most modern cognac. This Single Grape release is part of a small trio from Godet, alongside expressions built from Colombard and Montils, each designed to revive varieties that were once common before phylloxera devastated the region's vineyards in the nineteenth century.
Folle Blanche was the primary grape of cognac production before that blight, prized for its aromatic intensity, though today it accounts for less than one percent of the region's plantings. Godet's decision to bottle it as a single varietal, rather than folding it into a blend, lets the grape's distinct character stand on its own, offering a rare glimpse of the flavor profile cognac drinkers would have known generations ago.
The cognac shows a bright, rich gold in the glass and opens with acacia, honeysuckle, and linden blossom. On the palate, orange and marmalade unfold alongside a touch of Muscat raisin, finishing with warm nutmeg and a citrus lift.
