The name on the bottle is older than you think. Godet was founded in 1588 — fifteen generations of the same family, based in La Rochelle on the Atlantic coast of France, making Cognac continuously for over four centuries. Cognac Expert And the house's name is woven into the French language itself: in the 17th century, Cognac was tasted from small stemless wooden or metal goblets called "godets," and the expression "boire un godet" — to drink a goblet — became common French shorthand for sharing a Cognac with friends.  King Louis XIV formalized the connection in 1699, granting the family a coat of arms bearing three goblets that still appears on every bottle today.

The VSOP Original is a blend of eaux-de-vie aged 4 to 9 years, sourced from Grand Champagne, Petite Champagne, and Fins Bois  — the three crus that give it both floral delicacy and generous body. The nose is slightly woody and floral, tinged with hazelnut and peach jam. The palate is velvety and mellow, with a long, easy finish.  Wine Enthusiast adds honeycomb, roasted nuts, toasted brioche, and a zippy lemon-peel note before a close of gentle baking spice.

Awards include Double Gold and Best in Class at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and multiple medals at the IWSC London.  An exceptional VSOP at a price that makes the big Cognac houses look overpriced.
