The beer that started it all back in 1992, Bourbon County Original remains the flagship of Goose Island's annual barrel-aged release and one of the beers credited with kickstarting the entire barrel-aged beer category. This year marks the first time Original is available in convenient 4-packs of 10-ounce bottles, in addition to the standard bottling. Aged 12 months in a mix of freshly emptied Buffalo Trace, Heaven Hill, Four Roses, and Wild Turkey barrels, the 2025 edition leans more whiskey-forward than past years. Expect a nose of vanilla latte, confectioners' sugar, and gingerbread, moving into a rich, velvety palate of dark chocolate-covered cherries and vanilla with a sharp tannin backbone, finishing with a quick, char-heavy whiskey punch.
