Green River Bourbon Whiskey 750ml

John W. McCulloch founded Green River Distilling Co. in Owensboro, Kentucky in 1885, making it the tenth oldest licensed distillery in the state. Green River whiskey won gold at the 1900 Paris Exposition and a grand prize at the 1905 Liege Exposition before fire and Prohibition shut the operation down, and it was not until 2020 that bourbon began flowing again on the original grounds.

Today's Green River bourbon is distilled by eighth generation Kentuckian Jacob Call, whose family has been making whiskey since the 1700s, using a high rye mash bill built almost entirely from Kentucky grown corn, much of it sourced from the same county as the distillery. The whiskey runs through a 54 inch Vendome copper still and is fermented with a blend of two yeast strains before resting more than five years in the same historic Owensboro warehouses the brand used well over a century ago. It is bottled at 90 proof.

The whiskey pours a rich, golden amber and opens with warming spice, vanilla, and caramel, along with chocolate covered peppermint. Cinnamon, dried cherry, and a touch of light leather round things out. The finish stays spice and vanilla forward, true to the bourbon's rye leaning recipe.
