Hanson of Sonoma Distillery was founded by brothers Chris and Brandon Hanson, who set out to build a family-owned, small-batch spirits business in California wine country. Seeing an opportunity for an American craft vodka, Chris teamed up with his brother Brandon to co-found the distillery, aiming to craft organic, small-batch spirits from California grapes. The Original Vodka formula traces back to a specific batch, evaluated and praised by industry tasters, that became the foundation for everything the family now produces. The Hansons remain hands-on, with parents and siblings alike involved in the day-to-day running of the operation from their home base near the Sonoma-Napa border.

Hanson makes its vodka using organic grapes grown in Sonoma County, first fermenting them into wine before distillation. That base wine is distilled using a combination pot still and fifty-plate column still to produce the finished spirit. The result is certified organic, non-GMO, and gluten-free, reflecting the family's commitment to transparent, sustainable farming practices sourced from the surrounding Carneros growing region.

On the nose, the grape base comes through clearly, offering a mix of stone fruit and warm soil notes. The palate carries those same vinous qualities, layered with touches of sweet concord grape, wild raspberry, and baked plum.
