Heaven Hill Grain To Glass Beck's 6158 Rye Whiskey 750ml
Heaven Hill Distillery, based in Bardstown and operating its historic Bernheim production facility in Louisville, launched the Grain to Glass series as an experimental line built around the idea that seed genetics can shape whiskey flavor as much as mash bill ratios or barrel selection. Each year, Heaven Hill's master distiller partners with Beck's Hybrids to choose a specific corn seed varietal, printing that variety directly on the label. This inaugural rye release marked the brand's first departure from its traditional rye recipe, elevating the rye content well beyond the corn-heavy Kentucky style used in sibling brands like Rittenhouse and Pikesville.
This rye departs from Heaven Hill's standard low-rye mash bill by using roughly 63 percent rye alongside the Beck's 6158 corn varietal, resulting in a spicier, more rye-forward profile than the distillery's other offerings. It aged six years in rickhouse W3 on the third, fourth, and fifth floors before being bottled at cask strength, 123.2 proof, without chill filtration, preserving the full character developed during maturation.
The nose is grassy and cool, offering pine needle, eucalyptus, and chocolate mint that give way to baking spice and cocoa as the whiskey opens in the glass. The palate builds around rye spice and dark chocolate, while the finish brings a big cinnamon note alongside charred oak and a whisper of campfire smoke.
