Kamet Matured in Ex-Bourbon Casks Whiskey 750ml
Kamet is produced at the Piccadily Distillery in Karnal, in the Indian state of Haryana, the same distillery behind the well-known Indri label. The whisky is a joint venture between Peak Spirits, founded by Ansh Khanna and Master Sommelier Ken Frederickson, and Surrinder Kumar, widely regarded as the father of Indian single malt whisky. Kumar worked alongside American blender Nancy Fraley to develop Kamet's style, and the brand takes its name from Mount Kamet, India's third-highest peak, located in Uttarakhand.
The whisky is distilled from six-row barley, a variety native to northern India that grows in the foothills of the Himalayas and is irrigated with glacier meltwater. After double distillation in copper pot stills, the spirit matures in Karnal's extreme climate, where temperatures swing from near freezing to well above one hundred degrees Fahrenheit, accelerating the whisky's interaction with the wood. This particular expression rests in ex-bourbon American oak casks, bottled without chill filtration or added color.
The nose opens with vanilla, caramel, and warm oak spice, layered with raisin and a touch of dark chocolate. On the palate, fresh and dried fruit intertwine with vibrant spice and oaky vanilla. The finish is long and warm, closing with a balanced, gently sweet nuttiness.
