Laphroaig Elements 3.0 Single Malt Whiskey 700ml

Laphroaig Distillery was founded in 1815 by brothers Donald and Alexander Johnston on the southern coast of Islay, in a spot whose Gaelic name translates to "the hollow of the broad bay." Now owned by Suntory Global Spirits, the distillery still draws its water from the peat-softened Kilbride Stream and dries its malted barley over fires fueled by locally cut Islay peat, the process responsible for its trademark medicinal, smoky character.

Elements 3.0 is the third release in Laphroaig's experimental Elements series, which examines how specific production variables shape the final spirit. This edition traces back to an accidental kiln fire that burned hotter and longer than intended while malt rested above it. Rather than discard the affected batch, the distillery's whisky makers distilled and matured it in American oak ex-bourbon casks, curious to see how the unusual heat exposure would translate into flavor. The whiskey is bottled at cask strength, 55.3% ABV, as a limited small-batch run.

The nose carries charred peat and maritime brine alongside chocolate, charcoal, and butterscotch sweetness. On the palate, roasted cocoa and bitter dark chocolate meet citrus, cinnamon, and dried fruit. The finish is long and drying, closing on ash, leather, and smoke.
