Domaine de Bellair L'Encantada 1989 32 yr Bas-Armagnac 750ml
L'Encantada is a négociant-éleveur based in Vic-Fezensac, in the Gers department of Gascony, founded in 2011 by a small group of friends devoted to Armagnac. Rather than distilling their own spirit, the house scours the region for exceptional barrels resting in small, often overlooked estates, then matures and bottles them under its own name. Their releases are typically drawn from a single domaine and a single cask, bottled without added color, sweetening, or chill filtration so each expression reflects its own terroir and age.
This bottling comes from Domaine de Bellair, a small property in Bas-Armagnac known for producing spirits of notable depth and color. The eau-de-vie was distilled in 1989 using the traditional single-pass Armagnacais still, then aged for thirty-two years in oak from cask number three before being bottled in 2022 at cask strength, around 51.5% ABV, with no additives.
Decades in wood have given the spirit a deep, almost cherry-red hue. On the palate, dense stone fruit and dried fig meet layers of toasted oak, baking spice, and a faint smokiness, with a long, warming finish that reveals lingering notes of caramel and leather.
