Macallan 15 yr Double Cask Single Malt Whiskey 750ml
The Macallan was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, making it one of the earliest legally licensed distilleries in Scotland, and it remains one of the most recognized names in single malt whisky today. The distillery is known for its "Six Pillars" philosophy, which includes its Speyside estate, unusually small stills, and a long-standing commitment to sherry-seasoned oak, sourced in part from forests the distillery owns and manages in Spain to guarantee a steady, consistent supply of the specific wood it favors.
This 15 Year Old expression matures separately in two types of oak, both seasoned exclusively with Oloroso sherry rather than bourbon. American oak, sourced from Ohio, Missouri, and Kentucky, contributes sweetness and vanilla character, while European oak from Spain and the French Pyrenees brings spice, tannin, and deeper complexity. After 15 years the two are married together and bottled at 43% ABV with no added color.
The nose offers dried apricot and cranberry alongside toasted oak and butterscotch. On the palate, sweet raisin and baked apple build with cinnamon and nutmeg, wrapped in creamy vanilla. The finish is medium in length, warm and slightly dry, closing on lingering oak spice and a trace of toffee.
