The Macallan distills its single malts at the Macallan Estate in Speyside, Scotland, a producer widely regarded as one of the region's most prestigious for its emphasis on cask selection over age statements alone. In 2017, whisky maker Bob Dalgarno launched the Classic Cut series as an annual release meant to showcase the distillery's character at a bolder, near cask strength, departing from Macallan's typically gentler core range bottlings.

This 2025 edition, the ninth in the series, is matured across a combination of sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks along with ex-bourbon barrels, a wood regimen chosen fresh each year by the whisky-making team. The 2025 release settled on 50.6% ABV, toward the lower end of the strengths the series has explored since 2017, and was bottled from a limited run of roughly ninety thousand bottles with color drawn naturally from the cask.

At full strength, the nose leads with orange oil, barley sugar, and velvety milk chocolate, layered with caramel wafer and baked apple. Adding water reveals sweeter, brighter notes of grapefruit, vanilla panna cotta, and meringue. The palate carries sugar icing sweetness and citrus into a finish of melon and warming oak spice.
