Marie Duffau Hors d'Age Armagnac 750ml
The Marie Duffau estate traces back to 1875, when Prosper Delord began distilling as an itinerant operator, carting his pot still between farms across the Bas-Armagnac. He later married Marie Duffau, and in 1925 the couple formally founded the house with their son Gaston, settling permanently in Lannepax. The family still owns the same 44-hectare vineyard, often cited as the region's premier cru, and today the fourth generation, brothers Jérôme and Sylvain, continues the estate's traditional methods, including organic farming without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.
This Hors d'Age blend draws from Ugni Blanc, Baco, Colombard, and Folle Blanche grapes, distilled once at low temperature to preserve richness and character. Though the category requires only ten years of aging, this bottling carries a minimum age statement of twelve years, resting primarily in Limousin oak with a portion in Gascon oak for added spice and color.
The result is a deep amber spirit with notes of fig, prune, and raisin, layered with clove, cinnamon, and toffee, finishing on a dry, walnut-like rancio that lingers pleasantly. Its round, generous texture makes it a natural companion to dark chocolate or a strong espresso after dinner.
