Matchstick Straight Bourbon Whiskey comes from McClintock Distilling, a craft operation in downtown Frederick, Maryland, founded in 2016 by college friends Tyler Hegamyer and Braeden Bumpers. The pair set out to build a distillery centered on sustainability and heritage grain, and within its first year Matchstick earned the distillery a Double Gold medal at the San Francisco International Spirits Competition, making them among the youngest distillers to win that honor.

Matchstick is produced from certified organic, non-GMO heirloom grains, all milled in-house on an antique stone burr mill that preserves the grain's natural enzymes rather than relying on industrial processing. The mash is fermented and distilled on-site, then aged as a true straight bourbon in new charred oak barrels before bottling at 90 proof. McClintock recycles spent grain back to local farms for animal feed, part of the distillery's broader environmentally conscious approach to small-batch production.

Being grain-forward and organically produced, Matchstick leans into a rounder, more rustic profile than mass-market bourbon, with sweet corn and caramel notes layered over baking spice and toasted oak. The palate carries a gentle grainy warmth with a touch of vanilla, finishing smooth with lingering spice and a light char.
