Milam & Greene Port Finished Rye Whiskey 750ml

Milam & Greene Distillery is based in Blanco, in the Texas Hill Country, and was founded by whiskey expert Heather Greene alongside master distiller Marlene Holmes. Their partnership brought together deep industry knowledge and hands-on distilling craft, and the two built a brand around thoughtful sourcing and careful cask finishing rather than starting from scratch with new-make spirit alone.

This rye begins as whiskey distilled in Indiana from a mash bill of 95 percent rye and 5 percent barley, then travels to Milam & Greene's Blanco rickhouse for batching. There it finishes in old Portuguese port wine casks, with the distinct Texas climate accelerating the exchange between spirit and wood. The team tastes barrels regularly through the finishing process to judge timing before batching and bottling at 94 proof.

The nose leans into grape and dark raspberry before shifting toward oak, cinnamon, and dark brown sugar, with the wine cask influence clearly at the forefront. On the palate, plump dark raisin and dusty cocoa lead the way, with rye spice and cinnamon surfacing at the midpalate beneath the fruit. The finish carries warming spice and a lingering red fruit note, closing out a rye whiskey with a distinctly wine-forward character throughout.
