Morin Calvados Hors D'Age 15 yr Brandy (700ml)
Calvados Morin has been distilling apple brandy since 1889, when the business began in La Haye de Calleville, in the Risle Valley of Normandy. Pierre Morin carried the family enterprise forward, and later generations relocated production to cellars dug into the chalk hillsides of the Eure valley, where humid, temperature-stable conditions favor slow, even aging. The house is known for blending fruit from multiple terroirs rather than bottling single-orchard Calvados, aiming for a consistent, recognizable house style across its range.
This Hors d'Age expression spends fifteen years maturing in Limousin oak casks, a designation reserved in Calvados for spirits aged well beyond the minimum required for lesser age statements. The final blend draws on apples and pears grown across varied soils, combined with barrels of differing age and toast, a practice the house considers central to its character. Extended time in barrel deepens the color and allows oxidative aging to soften the spirit considerably before bottling at 42 percent alcohol by volume.
The result pours a rich amber with glints of copper and opens with smooth, toasted notes alongside candied fruit. On the palate it is powerful yet round, full bodied with well balanced tannins, carrying fragrances of ripe and caramelized apple through to a long, warming finish.
