Murray McDavid was founded in 1996 by London wine merchants Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin alongside former Springbank director Gordon Wright, and within a few years the trio famously revived the dormant Bruichladdich distillery on Islay. The independent bottler also coined the term ACE, or Additional Cask Enhancement, for its signature practice of finishing mature whisky in carefully chosen wine and spirit casks. Today it operates from Coleburn Distillery in Speyside.

This Benchmark release comes from Ben Nevis, founded in 1825 by "Long John" MacDonald at the foot of Britain's highest mountain and owned by Japan's Nikka since 1989. The distillery draws its water from the Allt a'Mhuilinn and is prized for a rich, oily, full-bodied spirit. Distilled in 2014, this whisky was finished in Pedro Ximénez casks from the small Jerez bodega Ximénez-Spínola.

The distillery's signature waxy, fruit-laden character meets a generous layer of PX sweetness, bringing notes of raisin, fig, and dark chocolate alongside malt loaf, pepper, and a hint of earthy spice. The texture is oily and mouth-coating, leading to a long, warming finish.
