Murray McDavid Glenallachie 15 yr Tawny Port Cask Finish Single Malt Whiskey 700ml
Murray McDavid is an independent whisky bottler founded by London wine merchants Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin alongside Springbank's Gordon Wright. The company built its early reputation on maturing whisky in unusual casks, particularly ones sourced from the fine wine world, and later played a role in reviving the shuttered Bruichladdich distillery before that operation was sold on. Today Murray McDavid operates from Coleburn Distillery in Speyside, where the team continues its long-standing "Art of Maturation," seeking out distinctive casks from around the world to finish and refine single malts of real character.
This 15 Year Old draws its spirit from Glenallachie, a Speyside distillery at the foot of Ben Rinnes that spent decades supplying blends before its whisky began appearing more widely as a single malt in its own right. The liquid was matured for the bulk of its life in a sherry butt, then spent its final years resting in a Tawny Port cask sourced from Caves de Murça in Portugal's Douro Valley, a wood partnership Murray McDavid has used across several releases to add layers of fruit and spice.
The nose offers fruity caramel, dark chocolate, and floral lift. On the palate, lush malt gives way to mulled berries and blossom honey, before a finish of creamy mocha, rich vanilla, and warm oak spice rounds things out.
