NV Delamotte - Champagne Brut Le Mesnil (750ml)
Delamotte is one of Champagne's oldest houses, founded in 1760 and based in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, the heart of the Côte des Blancs. Now under the same family ownership since 1988 as its more famous neighbor, Salon, Delamotte has quietly built a reputation for elegant, terroir-driven wines at a fraction of the fanfare. Production remains small, and the house continues to emphasize the precise, chalky character of its home village above all else.
The Brut blend combines fifty-five percent Chardonnay with thirty-five percent Pinot Noir sourced from Tours-sur-Marne, Bouzy, and Ambonnay, along with a smaller share of Pinot Meunier. The wine matures on its lees for thirty-six months before a light dosage is added, a patient approach that builds texture without dulling the wine's natural freshness.
The Brut pours a pale gold and opens with aromas of crisp apple, citrus, and toasted hazelnut. On the palate it turns bright and lively, with quince, tangerine, and brioche notes carried by a delicate, frothy mousse toward a clean, mineral finish. Serve with steamed shellfish, roast chicken, or fresh goat cheese.
