Egly-Ouriet is based in Ambonnay, one of Champagne's most storied Grand Cru villages in the Montagne de Reims. Francis Egly represents the fourth generation to farm the family's old vines here, and under his direction the estate has become a cult favorite among growers, prized for its uncompromising, low-intervention approach. The seventeen-hectare vineyard is planted mostly to Pinot Noir on chalky soils that lend the wines real depth and structure.

This Grand Cru blend combines roughly seventy percent Pinot Noir with thirty percent Chardonnay, sourced mainly from Ambonnay with smaller contributions from Bouzy, Verzenay, and Verzy. The wine is wild-fermented in oak barrels, aged on its lees for around four years, far longer than most Champagne, and bottled unfined and unfiltered with only a whisper of dosage.

The wine opens with aromas of apple, mandarin orange, and white peach, joined by brioche, marzipan, and honeysuckle. The palate is medium-bodied and vibrant, with a creamy, energetic mousse and a long, layered finish built on wet stone minerality. Pair it with a grilled pork chop, roasted pheasant, or a semi-aged tomme.

92+ Points
"Based on the generously structured 2019 vintage defined by a concentrated and small yield, with 50% reserve wines from 2018 and 2017, Egly's latest NV Grand Cru was disgorged in October 2024 with two grams per liter dosage. As always, it was sourced mainly from Ambonnay, complemented by 20% of fruit from Bouzy, Verzenay and Verzy. Soaring from the glass with scents of pear, pastries, peach and honeysuckle mingling with orange zest, it is medium- to full-bodied, concentrated and rich, supported by tangy acidity and concluding with a long, saline finish. It is vinified entirely in wood."
