NV Egly-Ouriet - Champagne Extra-Brut Les Premices (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]
Egly-Ouriet is a grower Champagne estate based in the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay, farmed by the Egly family since the eighteenth century. Francis Egly took charge of the domaine in 1982 and made the decisive move away from selling grapes to négociants, choosing instead to estate-bottle everything himself. Under his direction, the house adopted organic vineyard practices and low yields, earning it a reputation as one of Champagne's most serious grower-producers, often described as Burgundy with bubbles.
Les Prémices is an equal blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier, sourced from a plot in Trigny, in the Massif de Saint-Thierry, land that came into the family through Francis's wife. The base wine ferments with native yeasts in stainless steel, without malolactic conversion, and rests on its lees for around three years before a very low dosage is applied at disgorgement, placing the wine firmly in extra-brut territory.
Pale lemon in the glass, the wine offers aromas of white flowers, marzipan, and white peach, with a light herbal edge. The palate is bright and precise, carrying citrus zest and a saline, mineral finish. It works well with raw oysters, seared scallops, or a plate of charcuterie.
