Moët & Chandon traces its origins to 1743, when wine trader Claude Moët founded the house during the reign of Louis XV and began shipping Champagne to the royal court in Paris. The house took its current name in 1833 after his descendants joined the business, and it went on to launch Brut Impérial in 1869, a wine created to embody the bright, fruit-forward style still associated with the house today. Now part of the LVMH group and among the largest Champagne producers in the world, Moët & Chandon farms nearly 3,000 acres of vineyards and is also known as the maker of Dom Pérignon.

Brut Impérial draws on more than 200 different parcels across Champagne, blending Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay in roughly balanced proportions, with reserve wines making up 20 to 30% of the final assemblage. Producing such consistency at enormous scale required the house to build a dedicated, highly automated winery just for this cuvée. The wine ages a minimum of two years on the lees before disgorgement, with dosage that has trended notably lower in recent years to sharpen the wine's finish.

Golden straw in color with fine, persistent bubbles, this Champagne offers green apple, white peach, and citrus, layered with brioche and toasted nut notes. The palate is generous and fruit-forward, finishing clean and refreshing. It pairs well with a cheese platter, pastry canapés, or simple grilled shrimp.

90 Points
"An elegant Champagne, with a finely detailed mousse and a bright streak of lemon peel–laced acidity carrying well-meshed flavors of patisserie apple and pear, biscuit, smoke and candied ginger. An aperitif style, showing good focus and length. Pinot Noir,..."
