NV Mumm Napa - Brut Prestige (750ml)
Mumm Napa traces its roots to G.H. Mumm, the storied Champagne house founded in Reims, France in 1827. In 1979, G.H. Mumm partnered with Seagram to explore Napa Valley as a home for traditional method sparkling wine, sending winemaker Guy Devaux to identify a site suited to Champagne grape varieties. The winery released its first vintage in 1983 under the name Domaine Mumm before adopting the Mumm Napa name in 1990, and it continues to draw on French winemaking heritage while expressing California's warmer, sun-drenched character.
Brut Prestige blends Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with a small portion of Pinot Gris and Pinot Meunier rounding out the cuvée. Grapes come from vineyard sites across Napa Valley, including the estate's Carneros holdings, chosen for the cool-climate conditions sparkling wine production requires. The wine is made using méthode traditionnelle, undergoing secondary fermentation in the bottle, and the dosage draws on a solera system with reserves dating back to the winery's founding, adding depth and continuity across releases.
Expect a pale gold color with aromas of red apple, cherry, and fresh-baked bread. On the palate, flavors of plum, peach, and toasty brioche unfold with a fine, persistent mousse and a long finish. It's a versatile match for a cheese and charcuterie spread, fried appetizers, or a simple roast chicken dinner.
