NV Roederer Estate - Anderson Valley Brut Rose
Roederer Estate is the Anderson Valley outpost of Champagne house Louis Roederer, established in 1982 in Mendocino County. It stands apart as one of the few California sparkling wine producers relying entirely on fruit grown on its own vineyards, spread across roughly 600 acres in a cool, fog-influenced valley near the Pacific coast. Winemaker Arnaud Weyrich blends grapes with guidance from the Roederer team in Reims, carrying forward techniques refined over generations in Champagne while adapting them to California's distinct growing conditions.
This non-vintage Brut Rosé combines Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with a small portion of still Pinot Noir given extended skin contact added to achieve its pale salmon color. Oak-aged reserve wines from the estate's cellars round out the blend, and the wine spends a minimum of two years resting on its lees before release. Fermentation happens in stainless steel, with little to no malolactic conversion, preserving the bright, precise character the estate is known for.
Expect aromas of ripe strawberry, red currant, and citrus blossom, layered with brioche and a touch of baking spice. The palate is creamy yet lifted, with fine, persistent bubbles and a long, delicately spiced finish. Pour it alongside roast chicken, seared salmon, or fresh Dungeness crab for an easy, food-friendly match.
