NV Taittinger - Champagne Brut Prelude Grands Crus (750ml)
The Taittinger family has produced Champagne since 1932, when Pierre Taittinger acquired the Château de la Marquetterie in Pierry and began building one of the region's most respected houses. Still family-owned and now led by Vitalie Taittinger, the estate is known for favoring Chardonnay in its blends, a style that lends elegance and finesse across its range, and for holding onto historic vineyard sites that many larger houses have long since sold off.
Prélude Grands Crus is composed of equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, drawn exclusively from villages rated Grand Cru under the Champagne classification system, including Avize and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger on the Côte des Blancs and Mailly, Bouzy, and Ambonnay in the Montagne de Reims. Only free-run juice from the first pressing is used. After blending, the wine undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle and rests on its lees for roughly five years, well beyond the appellation's minimum requirement, before disgorgement.
Pale yellow with silvery glints, the wine releases fine, persistent bubbles alongside aromas of pear, white flowers, and toasted brioche. On the palate, crisp citrus and white peach meet a creamy texture and a chalky, mineral-driven finish. It suits oysters, grilled shrimp, or a simple roast chicken.
