NV Veuve Clicquot - Champagne Rich (750ml)
Veuve Clicquot traces its history back to 1772, when Philippe Clicquot founded the house, though its lasting reputation was shaped by his daughter-in-law, Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, known as the Veuve, or widow, Clicquot. She introduced the first known vintage champagne in 1810 and invented the riddling table in 1816, a technique still used across the region today, along with the earliest known blended rosé in 1818. More than two centuries later, the house continues to build on that legacy of innovation with its RICH cuvée, developed specifically for contemporary, cocktail-style drinking.
RICH is built on a blend of 45 percent Pinot Noir, 40 percent Meunier, and 15 percent Chardonnay, a departure from Veuve Clicquot's usual proportions that leans further into Meunier for roundness and gourmand character. The cuvée carries a notably higher dosage of 60 grams per liter, conceived under the idea that sugar functions like seasoning, capable of drawing out particular aromas when used with intention. The result is a non-vintage champagne designed to be served over ice, a serving style uncommon among traditional houses but built into RICH from the outset.
Expect exotic notes of pineapple and mango on the nose, layered with pear, lemongrass, and verbena, while the palate turns toward citrus and floral flavors with the house's signature creamy finish. Serve well chilled or over ice, and pair with spicy dishes like vegetable curry, grilled seafood, or a citrus-forward salad.
