Old Overholt holds the distinction of being America's oldest continuously maintained whiskey brand, founded in West Overton, Pennsylvania in 1810 as a classic Monongahela-style rye. It survived as the only nationally distributed straight rye on the market through the postwar decline of brown spirits, before being sold to the Jim Beam Distilling Company in 1987 and moving production to Kentucky, where it now falls under Beam Suntory.

This bottled-in-bond expression revives a designation Old Overholt first carried more than a century ago, becoming the brand's first bonded release in over fifty years when it returned to shelves. Distilled from a mash bill of roughly 51 percent rye with corn and malted barley rounding it out, the whiskey is made in a single distillation season at one distillery, aged a minimum of four years in a federally bonded warehouse, and bottled at exactly 100 proof under strict Bottled in Bond Act requirements.

The nose brings caramel and rye spice together with grainy sweetness, butterscotch, and a touch of roasted grain and mint. On the palate, cinnamon and black pepper meet caramel and light vanilla, with dried orchard fruit and roasted peanut adding depth beneath the spice. The finish runs long, closing on warm spice and caramel with a lingering peanut sweetness that gives it real staying power for the price.
