Pages Verveine du Velay Verte (Green) liqueur 700ml
Pagès Verveine du Velay traces its origins to 1859, when the herbalist and apothecary Joseph Rumillet-Charretier developed the recipe in Le Puy-en-Velay, a town in the Auvergne region of south-central France known for its long tradition of herbal distillation. In 1886 he brought in his cousin Victor Pagès to manage the distillery, and the business took the Pagès name once Rumillet-Charretier retired. The house still crafts its liqueurs using this original formula, grounded in locally grown lemon verbena.
The Verte expression blends thirty-two plants, spices, and aromatic herbs around a core of lemon verbena cultivated, harvested, and dried on the distillery's own land. Production follows three stages that together span roughly eighteen months: the botanicals are first macerated to draw out their flavor, then distilled in copper pot stills, and finally aged in oak casks. The liqueur is bottled at fifty-five percent alcohol by volume, giving it a place alongside other herbal digestifs such as green Chartreuse.
On the nose it offers vivid herbal lift from lemon verbena, layered with juniper, nutmeg, and green plant notes. The palate is powerful and aromatic, with citrus zest and a touch of spice moving into a warm, refreshing finish. Its natural green hue reflects the intensity of its botanical character.
