Paul Masson began as a California wine pioneer in the 1890s, when the French-born vintner is credited with creating and popularizing the first American sparkling wine. The brand that carries his name has since expanded into brandy production, and today this bottling has Californian roots but is distilled, blended, and bottled in Bardstown, Kentucky, placing it in the heart of American spirits country.

This VS brandy is distilled from grape-based wine and rests in American oak casks for a minimum of three years, a year longer than the standard VS requirement, which the producer credits with giving the spirit added smoothness and a fuller body. A specific blend of grapes is used in production to round out the profile before aging deepens the color and develops the final character. It is bottled at 40% alcohol by volume, or 80 proof.

The brandy pours a rich, luminous amber and opens with aromas of caramel, vanilla, and toasted pralines, layered with maple and hints of dried fruit. On the palate, oak spice and honeyed notes come through alongside a touch of ginger, while the body stays smooth with a gentle sweetness. The finish is warm and lingering, closing with soft vanilla and light oak tannins.
