Pernod Anise Aperitif 750ml

Pernod is the oldest anise liqueur brand in France, tracing back to 1805, when Henri-Louis Pernod established the Pernod Fils company in Pontarlier to produce absinthe under his own name, building on a recipe originally developed by Dr. Pierre Ordinaire. The brand grew into a major force in French spirits before absinthe was banned in France in 1915 over concerns about its wormwood content. In the years that followed, the company reformulated its flagship product into an anise liqueur without wormwood, and this new style became the modern Pernod. In 1975 the company merged with its rival Ricard to form Pernod Ricard, now one of the largest spirits groups in the world.

Today's Pernod is distilled from star anise and fennel, then blended with distillates of fourteen additional botanicals, among them coriander, mint, and chamomile. It carries a notably lower licorice content than pastis-style anise drinks, giving it a cleaner, more herbal character than many of its French counterparts.

Pernod pours clear but turns cloudy and opalescent when mixed with water, releasing a bright wave of licorice and anise aroma. The palate is herbal and refreshing, balancing sweet anise with subtle notes of mint and coriander, finishing clean rather than heavy.
