Redbreast 15 yr Single Pot Still Whiskey 750ml

Redbreast has been a benchmark for single pot still Irish whiskey since Gilbey's first bottled it in the early 1900s using distillate from Jameson's Bow Street Distillery, and it remains produced today at the Midleton Distillery in County Cork under Irish Distillers, a Pernod Ricard subsidiary. The 15 Year Old expression joined the range in 2014, developed by master blender Billy Leighton as a bolder, more complex step up from the standard 12 Year Old, and it has since collected numerous international awards, including honors from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Redbreast 15 is made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley, the signature combination behind single pot still whiskey, and triple distilled in traditional copper pot stills. The spirit matures for a full fifteen years across a trio of cask types, primarily first-fill Oloroso sherry butts and first-fill and refill bourbon barrels, a longer maturation that builds noticeably more depth and wood influence than its younger sibling. It is bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration or added color, preserving the natural richness of the whiskey.

Expect an amber-gold color and a nose of stewed fruit, orange marmalade, and toasted spice, giving way to a full, rounded palate of ripe berries, dark chocolate, and warm oak. The finish is long and layered, closing on baking spice and a lingering sherried sweetness. That structure and depth make it well suited to a Redbreast old fashioned, built simply with sugar and bitters to let the sherry cask character shine.
