George Remus built his bourbon-world reputation as a real historical figure, a pharmacist and attorney turned Prohibition-era "King of the Bootleggers," who exploited legal loopholes in the Volstead Act to legally distribute whiskey for medicinal purposes. Today's Remus Bourbon brand, produced at Ross & Squibb Distillery (formerly MGP) in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, borrows his name and outlaw legacy for a lineup that has earned repeated recognition, including a spot among Wine Enthusiast's best bourbons. The Babe Ruth Reserve marks an official partnership between the distillery and the Babe Ruth estate, pairing two icons of the 1920s.

This edition blends three separately distilled high-rye bourbons, a nod to Ruth's number 3 jersey, drawn from 2016 and 2017 vintages and aged 8 to 9 years before blending. The largest portion of the mix, distilled in 2017, carries a mash bill of 51 percent corn, 39 percent unmalted rye, and 10 percent malted rye, supplemented by smaller lots at 44 percent and 36 percent rye. The finished blend is bottled at cask strength, 111 proof, with each release individually numbered and limited to a bottle count tied to a specific Ruth career statistic.

The nose offers apricot, orange peel, and baking spices layered over toffee. On the palate, baking spice leads into crème brûlée, seared caramel, graham cracker, and pastry notes, giving the whiskey a rounded, dessert-forward character. The finish brings rye spice back to the front alongside caramel, vanilla, and toasted oak, with the spice lingering well after the sip.
