Alfred Schladerer has distilled fruit brandies in Staufen, a small town in Germany's southwestern Black Forest, for over 160 years. The family-run distillery has built a reputation as one of Germany's finest producers of eau de vie, rivaling top Swiss houses while staying true to traditional methods rather than relying on bulk ethanol or artificial flavoring. That commitment to authentic distillation has made Schladerer a benchmark name among fruit brandy specialists.

This eau de vie is made exclusively from ripe Williams pears, the variety known in the United States as Bartlett, sourced from orchards in South Tyrol, Romagna, and the Rhône plains. The fruit is harvested at peak ripeness and fermented cool to protect its delicate aromatic compounds, then distilled in small traditional copper pot stills that preserve the pear's essential oils. The finished spirit is bottled clear, with no wood aging, added sugar, or flavoring, resulting in a pure, unaged expression of the fruit itself.

On the nose, ripe Williams pear mingles with soft floral notes and a touch of pepper and allspice. The palate is dry and aromatic, juicy and peppery with a satiny, medium body, while the finish is clean and lingering with no residual sweetness.

"Notes: This is a eau de vie is made from Williams pears from south Tyrol, Romagna and Rhone plains in small copper pot stills. It does not use bulk ethanol and chemical flavors like some (O.K. most ) of its competitors to make some bastardized vodka kool aid and try to pass it of as eau de vie. It uses a much more true (but expensive) process.

Appearance: Clear bright, on swirling it leaves a thick clear coat on the inside of the glass and shows some impressively long legs. This is a sign that tit is well blended in that the essential oils do not separate from the alcohol base- a difficult trick to accomplish.
