Skyy Vodka 1.75L

Skyy Vodka was created in San Francisco in 1992 by inventor Maurice Kanbar, who set out to develop a vodka with far fewer congeners, the fermentation byproducts often blamed for harshness and rough finishes. His proprietary distillation and filtration process became the foundation of the brand, launching Skyy as one of the earliest vodkas to market itself specifically on purity. The brand is now part of the Milan-based Campari Group, produced through its Campari America division, though its distinctive cobalt blue bottle and San Francisco roots remain central to its identity.

Skyy starts with a base of American winter wheat, distilled four times through column stills to strip out impurities while preserving clean grain character. The water used in production is enriched with minerals sourced from the San Francisco Bay Area, intended to add subtle salinity and improve mouthfeel. After distillation, the spirit passes through a triple filtration process that includes a final run through California limestone, a step the brand credits with lending the vodka its light mineral quality.

Skyy opens with a fresh, clean aroma marked by toasted grain and a faint trace of fruit, with very little ethanol sharpness on the nose. The palate is smooth and slightly creamy, carrying subtle salinity and soft mineral tones alongside light citrus and anise notes. It finishes dry and crisp, with a noticeable peppery snap that lingers briefly after each sip.
