Talisker 10 yr Whiskey 750ml

Talisker Distillery, founded in 1830, remains the only distillery on the Isle of Skye, a rugged setting that shapes nearly every aspect of the whisky's character. The distillery was rebuilt after a fire destroyed it in the 1960s, with the new stills cast as exact replicas of the originals to preserve Talisker's signature flavor. It later joined Diageo's Classic Malts collection alongside distilleries like Lagavulin and Glenkinchie, and its whisky famously serves as a key component in Johnnie Walker Red Label. Robert Louis Stevenson once called it "the king of drinks."

The mash bill uses roughly 75% malt peated to 20 to 25 ppm blended with 25% unpeated malt, fermented in Oregon pine washbacks before distillation in stills fitted with U-shaped purifier loops that build extra reflux. The spirit is then condensed through worm tubs rather than modern shell-and-tube condensers, a slower method believed to preserve extra oiliness and depth. Matured primarily in American oak for 10 years, the whisky is bottled at an unusually specific 45.8% ABV.

The nose opens with peat smoke, sea salt, and brine, layered with honey, citrus, and orange blossom sweetness. On the palate, that sweetness carries through alongside toffee and orchard fruit before giving way to Talisker's signature burst of black pepper and mineral spice. The finish is long and warming, closing with lingering smoke and pepper. It pairs particularly well with smoked fish or briny shellfish.
