Tesseron has been a family name in cognac since Abel Tesseron acquired his ancestral property in Châteauneuf-sur-Charente in 1905, aging his stocks in cellars that date to the thirteenth century and once formed part of a local church crypt. The family only began bottling under its own name in 2003, and Lot 29 draws on some of the oldest and rarest reserves in that collection, now overseen by Alfred Tesseron, who is also proprietor of the Bordeaux estate Château Pontet-Canet.

Exception is built entirely from Grande Champagne fruit, blending Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche, and Colombard grapes aged for at least three generations, roughly seventy-five years, in Limousin oak. That decades-long maturation concentrates the eau-de-vie into a small fraction of its original volume, producing a cognac defined as much by patience as by terroir.

Lot 29 pours a lustrous topaz and opens with a heady, floral nose layered with honey, fig, and plum alongside chocolate and mocha. The palate is supremely elegant, combining macerated dried fruit with cocoa and a persistent rancio character, finishing on notes of marmalade that linger remarkably long. Best reserved for a special occasion, enjoyed neat at room temperature.

"COGNAC TESSERON LOT N?29 EXCEPTION is the rare jewel of the Tesseron collection of Cognacs. A unique blend of legendary Grande Champagne, the cream of our oldest and rarest stocks, lovingly aged for at least three generations. Balancing power and finesse, Exception has a floral bouquet, allied to chocolate and mocha notes. This is complemented by that elusive, ethereal nose which is so typical of only the very best old cognac. This subtle elixir has an extraordinarily long aftertaste, and its lovely amber highlights reflect its very slow ageing - the quintessence of elegance.
