Torres 20 yr Old Superior Hors d'Age Brandy 750ml
Bodegas Torres was founded in Vilafranca del Penedès, Catalonia, and has remained a family run business across four generations, now led by Miguel A. Torres, who trained in oenology at the University of Dijon before joining the company in 1962. While the great majority of Spanish brandy comes from Jerez in Andalusia, Torres is one of only two houses distilling in Penedès, a distinction that shapes the character of everything the family produces. The 20 year old Hors d'Age sits at the top of the brandy range, the oldest age stated release the house currently offers.
This expression is made from Parellada, a traditional Catalan grape, and Ugni Blanc, more commonly associated with Cognac production. The two varieties are distilled separately, each undergoing double distillation in traditional copper pot stills, before the resulting spirits are aged for twenty years in French Limousin oak using a solera system. That combination of grape choice and French oak gives Torres 20 a character that leans closer to a Cognac or Armagnac than to the sherry cask brandies typical of Jerez.
The nose is lush with sultanas, new leather, and a hint of apple cider, layered with vanilla bean, cigar box, cinnamon sugar, and nutmeg from years in barrel. The palate turns intensely velvety, carrying dark caramel and warm spice through to a long, dignified finish shaded by subtle oak.
