Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye Whiskey 750ml
Wild Turkey Distillery has stood in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky since the 1940s, and its whiskey has long been shaped by the father-son team of Jimmy and Eddie Russell, among the most tenured distillers in the industry. While the brand built its name on bourbon, the Russells turned a sharper focus toward rye in recent years, culminating in Rare Breed Rye, the first permanent super-premium rye to join the Wild Turkey lineup.
Rare Breed Rye is a small batch blend of straight rye whiskeys aged four, six, and eight years in charred oak barrels. It is bottled at barrel proof, meaning no water is added to bring it down after maturation, and it goes uncut into the bottle at 112.2 proof. The whiskey is also left non-chill filtered, a choice that preserves more of the natural oils and congeners from the barrel for a fuller, richer body.
The nose carries toasted oak and baking spice with a trace of vanilla and pepper underneath. On the palate, caramel apple and honey unfold into layers of rye grain spice and charred wood, with dried fruit and citrus zest weaving through the mid-palate. The finish is long and warming, closing on lingering spice and a persistent peppery bite that rewards a slow sip.
